How Can I Overcome Procrastination

Many moments in life when you have to do some important work and you know this is very important to you but still you avoid that work because you don;t know how you can overcome Procrastination.

Procrastination means, we ignore our important work until his last date. Procrastination stops our success because, when we avoid our work it’s become our habit and now, we only do our important work when we realize his deadline. 

We have to overcome procrastination otherwise it always stops us from growing in life. We can use many simple ways to overcome procrastination. Procrastination is a habit and we could change this habit by our will power and taking some simple steps. 

1. Set a Potential Target 

What happens if I give you a first class mathematics problem, you might be bored. What if I give you a PHD level mathematics problem, you might not understand anything.

When we do a task which is so easy we don’t want to do it and when we have to do a very hard task which we don’t know about we will procrastinate. If you want to overcome procrastination you have to set a goal according to your potential. 

Set a target according to your potential and you’ll never procrastinate because it’s in your strength. When you set your target according to your strength, you not only complete that work but also enjoy that work while doing because it’s in your interest area.  

2. Every Task With a Deadline 

We procrastinate because we know how much time we have to complete that particular task. We can use this method and overcome procrastination by setting a deadline for every task which we have to complete.

This is a excellent way to overcome procrastination because, we procrastinate that how much time we have but, if we set a deadline for our all our small or big task also like, wash kitchen, take a bath, then we can control our time and we won’t procrastinate. When we do that, we develop a habit to do tasks on time.    

3. Reward for Yourself

Whenever you complete a big task or you complete many small tasks you can give yourself a reward. You can give a reward which can be anything like, you can eat your favorite sweet, watch your favorite web series episode, take a break or anything. 

You can also give yourself a task like ‘I will overcome fear of public speaking and give a speech in public’ and when you complete that task you can reward yourself.

Giving reward yourself seems so small but creates a huge impact on overcoming procrastination because, when you complete a task and give yourself a reward. It feels so good to your mind because you connect your task completions with a reward. This thing motivates you to do further tasks on time. Try this and see amazing results and overcome your procrastination in an easy way. 

4. Just Start Your Work 

Many times we procrastinate because we want perfection in our task. We just fill our mind with lots of information related to our task. When we have lots of information we don’t understand what to do and how to start. We are just confused in doing it in a perfect way.

You will overcome procrastination by just starting your work. You don’t need perfection to start a work. Perfection comes when we start doing a task, see our mistakes and improve them but, if you want to reach that level you have to overcome procrastination and just start doing your work. 

5. Create a Momentum

Many times we procrastinate because we don’t have the momentum to do our task. We just do one or two tasks, and feel lazy. If you want to overcome procrastination, you have to make a moment to do work for a long time like, reading books or, you can make a to-do list according to your daily task.

If you are the kind of person who loves to do hard things first you can put all your hard things first and if you want to do easy work first you can make a to-do list starting with easy tasks to hard ones. 

Creating a momentum by reading a page of a book is a good start. Book reading also improves your communication skill and english communication skills because, you have to read more and read in english helps you to develop skill in english communication 

You just need a to-do list according to your strength and now start doing it and right tick them. Which can increase your confidence. When you right tick on 2-3 tasks you will be motivated to do all tasks which you write in the to-do list.

6. Make your Priorities 

One of the major reasons for procrastination is, we don’t prioritise our tasks. Which is the most important, which one we can avoid, which one we do first or last in the day? You can also use the 80/20 rule to prioritize your work.

The 80/20 rule says that your 20% habits affect your 80% life, so if you want to control them you just need to focus on your 20% habit which impacts on your 80% life. 

We have to prioritise all our important tasks and do them according to it. Set your priorities, take one step at a time, and maintain discipline. It will help you to overcome procrastination and increase your confidence. Confidence gives you strong body language in communication

7. Clean your Environment

If you take care of your environment it will help you to overcome procrastination and increase your concentration power because, environment motivates us to do all the work. How much you can clean your house or place where you have to work, gives you a good vibe, makes you happy and helps you to overcome your anger issues if you have anger issues.

For a peaceful environment you can also turn off your mobile phone while doing important work like studying. This improves your memory power because working with full focus on one thing increases your muscle memory. 

You have to clean your environment as much as possible. Clean environment helps you to wake up early in the morning and study for 3-4 hours continuously. Clean your environment so you just see things which help you to do your work like study, making a project, or anything. If your environment is clean you can easily do hard things and easily overcome procrastination

8. Remember Purpose of Your Life

You can overcome procrastination permanently if you know your purpose in life, the career you choose and why you choose that.

The day you realize why you need to complete that work, you’ll never be lazy and procrastinate because now you know the importance of that work and this thing motivates you. 

You can only find your purpose when you try different things in life and, at some point in life you realize that’s the thing I want to do my whole life. When you find your purpose, you will discipline yourself and all your hard things automatically become easy for you. 


What You Learnt From It

(i) If you want to do anything in life you have to overcome procrastination. Otherwise you always procrastinate on important things and that habit will destroy your career.  

(ii) you have to set your goal according to your strength and give them a deadline and after completing them you have to reward yourself. This is the easiest way to kill your procrastination. 

(iii) From starting any work you have to prioritize your work then, start your work and maintain momentum until it is completed. Number 3 is my favorite way to overcome procrastination.
